Michael Krawiec, an instructor at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Clemmons, was the dance instructor Thursday night as the Professional Women's Forum held its 14th annual Ladies Night Out at the Piedmont Club.

The night started off with a champagne reception and dinner in the Cardinal Room, providing the members of the group, the club and their guests with plenty of networking opportunities.

Mrs. Shuman and her husband, Adam, are in town from Florida for a prolonged consulting stint at SilkRoad Salon. On Thursday night, they offered free consultations along with stylists Erin Blakley, Sarah Sneed, Kelsie Gentle, Megan LaFever, Christopher Surratt, Kimberly Durhan, Amanda Banks and Donna Moore. Paul Weddle, the salon manager, also attended the party.

JRS SUPERSTARS’ Far Infrared Ray (FIR) hair irons & dryers provide healthy heating to preserve moisture in the hair and revitalize the scalp. FIR penetrates to the center of hair and heats the hair inside out allowing for faster drying. At the same time, FIR invigorates the scalp,
increases blood flow, improves hair texture and stimulates new hair growth.

What is Far Infrared Ray?
Light, as we understand today, is composed of an infinite number of colors that can be
separated by passing it through a simple prism. The great scientist James Maxwell
discovered that light, in fact, was in the form of waves (or radiation or “ray”) and that
each color of light has a unique “signature” called a wavelength which determines its
appearance or color. However, the human eye is limited in that it can only see a certain
range of colors and not the entire spectrum of wavelengths. Although the invisible
portions of the light range may seem irrelevant; they exist and play an important role in
the way we exist today as inhabitants on earth.

JRS SUPERSTAR has in fact managed to harness this invisible portion of light to revolutionize the hair care industry with advanced styling tools. JRS SUPERSTAR has taken an invisible portion of the light spectrum (Far Infrared Ray) and used its inherent properties to the benefit of human health and beauty. Infrared rays are in the invisible part of the electromagnetic spectrum below the color red in the visible light range. The infrared portion is further divided into three segments: Near Infrared segments have wavelengths of 0.76 to 1.5 microns; Middle Infrared is 1.5 to 5.6 microns; and Far Infrared is 5.6 to 1000 microns. The Infrared waves from the sun provide the most energy that warms the earth. For human cells, the most beneficial rays in the infrared band are these in the Far Infrared Ray (FIR) range. Electromagnetic spectrum consists of visible and invisible rays. Infrared ray can be further divided into Near, Middle and Far ranges.

Why does room temperature feel much warmer in the summer as opposed to room temperature in the winter?
During summer, one may feel warm and wear a t-shirt in a room that is 18 C. In winter, the same room could still be 18 C, but one may feel cold and likely to be wearing a sweater. The reason for this is that during the summer, the earth is tilted on its axis such that a greater amount of FIR from the sun is absorbed into the walls and furniture. FIR is regenerated out from the wall and furniture to penetrate our skin to make us feel warmer. Where as, in the winter, there is less FIR from the sun to be absorbed by a room’s surroundings, thereby, producing colder-like ambient settings.

When I stand in the sun as opposed to standing in the shade, why do I feel much warmer?
Standing outside directly in the sun, one would feel warm. Stepping into a shaded area just a few feet away one would immediately feel much cooler. The actual air temperature of the two locations will be similar,
although not enough difference to account for the large temperature shift just experienced. The difference is due to having FIR not being able to warm the body directly while standing in the shade.

Why do I get burned from heating elements or steam but not Far Infrared sources?
While boiling a pot of water, one can feel the heat energy. The steam is in the Near and Middle Infrared Ray wavelength which is not enough to heat the internal organs but enough to burn the skin. However, the longer waver lengths of Far Infrared Rays from the sun contain penetrating rays to heat through our skin and to our organs. Far Infrared Rays from the sun does not burn our skin; it is the shorter wavelengths such as Ultra Violet Rays that are damaging.

Benefits of FIR in Hair
Conventional styling tools provide infrared waves in the Near and Middle segments.
These infrared rays have wavelengths that are not sufficient to penetrate hair or the scalp
for healthy styling. Because of non-penetration, these shorter infrared rays heat the air
surrounding the hair and conduct the hot air to the surface of the hair. The hair is heated
by means of conduction from the surface which causes frizzy, dry and damaged hair.
Convention Heating thru Conduction FIR Heating thru JRS SUPERSTARS’ styling tools uses the longer wavelength from FIR technology to generate deep penetrating heat. This penetrates directly into the cortex of hair cuticles, heating from the inside out. It creates an effect that relaxes and softens hair. The hair is heated evenly, giving a gentle drying process in half the time thereby reducing heat exposure. Water molecules on the surface of the hair break apart into smaller droplets and get absorbed into the hair. Moisture is then locked within the cuticles to give a protective barrier to reduce chemical and bacteria build-up. Conventional dryers leave the cuticles dry and frizzy. FIR leaves the hair soft, smooth. and shiny. Maximum light refraction!

Benefits of FIR in the scalp
Small blood vessels in the scalp supply cells with essential nutrients and oxygen and
carry away waste products. When the scalp lacks a supply of nutrients and oxygen,

Sun & salt water take it’s toll on hair but everyone does it up every night for PACHA! Bangs are big & bold. Straight but the rest of the hair could be left natural. Salons there, all were looking for trained advanced hair cutters. We even were offered a position near Café Del Mar a sunset paradise. Haircuts male & female cost the same, they should.

Men we noticed spend a lot more time on their hair there before going out nightly. They really use a blow dryer, irons & hairspray! Remember, sunset is @ 10:30 PM. Prime dinner time is between 10 – midnight. Clubs open @ 2AM but remember siesta is from 2 – 4 daily.

Niece, Got to have a Niecois salad & rose wine. The fresh market & every day sights are inspiring. You have to see the color of fresh tomatoes!

Florence. We’ve all heard of the “ David “ ask my wife Janine, NEPTUNE is the man! Leather, gold, the Ponti Vecchieo, ( butchers bridge ) the market, statues and archetcture are all inspiring but tourist hair is all we saw! They could use some guidance.

Rome. Ever stand in the Coliseum? So many Gladiator movies but to be there, just in awe. You can feel the energy even today.

Naturally we tossed our Euros in the fountain. You know the story? Later. The Vatican & cystine chaple. That would get anyones creative juices running. Michael Angelo started his masterpiece @ 66 years old! Keep your eyes, mind & heart open but keep your shoulders & knees covered or you won’t get in!

Barcelona. We were ready to stay forever! Buildings from 1200, Goudy & the most fashionable people with no limitations. Like the buildings & sculpture in harmony with nature. Ever read Dr. Souss? The trufular trees are really there. Shapes within shapes old & new combined to create an unbelievable future. The Sagrada Familia Goudys work started in the early 1900 will not be finished in our lifetime. The work goes on.
